Courage comes in many forms....sometimes just coming to class takes courage, as does getting ready for grading...it only takes one step at a time.
... See MoreSee Less

Courage takes so many forms. Having courage is being brave enough to face up to what we fear and moving forward into the unknown. Quite often students come to me and say they would like to try sparring but fear it. I tell them that I was always afraid before every competition and sparring session. But I did not move away from the fear or let it control me. If we don't constantly look for new challenges where there is an element of the unknown then we are constantly moving away from fear and we never have the opportunity to face situations with courage....we are not willing to take a risk. No risk no gain….Andy

Reminder - time to have a real go at your syllabus with the Green Belt to Brown Tip Intensive. Saturday 18 November at 3.00pm – 4.30pm. Cost is $40. Black Belts train for free. It counts for two sign-offs. Please register via email at info@quantummartialarts.com.au.From Green Belt, you start moving away from “create distance and escape” to really breaking balance hard with techniques that are powerful, direct and efficient. This includes strikes, throws, joint breaks and submissions. Northstar Ju Jitsu was developed from Taekwondo, Kickboxing (including Muay Thai), Tenjin Shin-yo Ryu Ju Jutsu (from which Judo was developed), Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu (from which Aikido was developed) and Systema (the martial arts taught to the Russian Special Forces). By combining the best parts of these powerhouse systems, we are able to deliver you a highly effective martial arts system….and intensive. This session will be perfect for grading preparation, or as intensive for those wishing to improve their technique. The focus will be purely on multiple defence, self defence and ground defence from Green Belt to Brown Tip. If you are Brown Belt+, this will be a great revision (as you know you need to know this for your belt levels).p.s. If you are going for the Blue Belt to Red Belt grading and you have not done the pre-assessment by me, this session will be the perfect time to do so. We will also be able to help you correct any areas of weakness.

I shared with my students we will run a program with Anglicare for the carers they support in SW Sydney. Some are as young as 7 years old, and our workshop will be for the older kids (14 to 18 yrs). Our kids were in awe as I told them the stories and wanted to ensure as many of the amazing carer kids who look after families will want to come along, so we made them a short message...fingers crossed. ... Northstar Ju Jitsu training will enhance the quality of a mindful experience. When we are mindful we are generally aware of our own space which naturally extends to the space around you. How you behave and interact with in that space can influence the wellbeing and attitude of others. We cannot control what others think or do but we can learn to master the response to others in a way that enables a good out come. Mindful awareness cultivates a calm and spacious attitude to life. Start now by naming your breathing…breathe in….breathe out…and try it when you feel the need to be right…get even or anger is looming…have a mindful day…Andy.

Authentic Ju Jitsu at Esprit MA
... See MoreSee Less

Authentic Ju Jitsu. The Japanese art of Self Defence. All the traditional and modern systems of Ju Jitsu teach both throwing and ground moves from the beginning of the students journey. The Northstar Ju Jitsu style is a little different. Though greatly influenced by traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu, throws are not taught until the students has been training for at least 6 months. In the mean time, the beginners are taught a very comprehensive syllabus of striking techniques. So the initial defence to break balance is an immediate strike with out getting tangled up in an attempt to lock up, throw or go to ground. The 6 months gives a base level of being able to defend yourself whilst remain standing and a strong foundation to refer back to when ever the more advanced techniques do not work. From this grounded and stable base the throws, locks and other moves can be added on once balance is broken. Continuing to train and improve, the strikes are interwoven with movement and techniques that complete the application of Ju Jitsu moves. Most of the modern Ju Jitsu systems that I have observed are hybrids of Judo, which was the first modern interpretation of traditional Ju Jitsu. Not to say that they are not effective, but most put the cart before the horse in that only include the striking to break balance as an after thought. Andy Sensei. #authenticjujitsu #NSJJspirit
